This is lower than the Tesla Model S drag coefficient of C d=0.24, which, in 2014, was the lowest among the production cars of the time. Tesla said it would have a 5-Star safety rating and have a drag coefficient of C d=0.23. In 2017 Tesla added that the Standard Range version of the all-electric car would have an estimated EPA-rated range of 215 miles (346 km), a five-passenger seating capacity, front and rear trunks, and promised sports-car levels of acceleration performance. In 2008 the car was stated to be a family car. In an interview for Wired Science recorded during 2006, Elon Musk presented the Model 3 as likely being affordable by most people able to purchase new cars. It has also been the bestselling PEV in the United States for three consecutive years, 2018 to 2020, the top selling PEV in Europe in 2019, and the bestselling PEV in China in 2020. The Model 3 has been the world's top selling plug-in electric car (PEV) for three years running, from 2018 to 2020. Since early 2020, the Model 3 is the bestselling electric car in world history, and, in June 2021, became the first electric car to pass the 1 million global sales milestone. The Model 3 was marketed as being more affordable to more people than previous models by Tesla. According to Tesla, the Model 3 carries full self-driving hardware, with periodic software updates adding functionality. The base Model 3 delivers an EPA-rated all-electric range of 272 miles (438 km) and the Long Range version delivers 358 miles (576 km). The Model 3 is considered as a mid-size car in the US and a large family car in Europe. The official launch and delivery of the first 30 cars took place on July 28. Limited production of the Model 3 began in mid-2017, with the first production vehicle rolling off the assembly line on July 7, 2017. It is a battery-powered four-door sedan that is marketed in the compact-executive segment. The Tesla Model 3 is an electric car produced by American automaker Tesla. However, BMW and Volvo make plug-in versions of their 3 Series and S60 sedans, with the latter being the better match for the Tesla’s performance. Tesla is the only carmaker offering an all-electric upscale compact car right now, so the Model 3 technically has no direct competition. Long Range is rated for 1.7/1.9 Le/100 km, and the Performance package’s estimates are 2.0/2.2 Le/100 km. Tesla’s energy consumption estimates for the Model 3 start at 1.6/1.8 Le/100 km (city/highway) for Standard Range cars. The Model 3’s main option is a full self driving package that can handle lane changes, parking, and traffic light and stop sign recognition, and includes a summon feature that will drive the car to you from its parking spot. The Model 3 comes with 18-inch wheels, a black interior, an all-glass roof, a 15-inch central touchscreen, traffic sign recognition, 360-degree camera views, wireless smartphone charging, vegan leather seating, automatic climate control, heated front seats with power adjustments, heated/power-folding side mirrors, and internet media connectivity. You can also get AWD in Long Range and Performance variants that offer the most driving range. A rear-wheel drive model comes in Standard Range form, and can be downgraded to a 151-km range priced to qualify for Canada’s EV incentive program. Tesla offers the Model 3 in a single trim but gives you the option of four powertrain options. There’s also a new power trunk, and some updated materials in the cabin. Those include new wheel designs, and the Standard Range, Long Range and Performance variants all get a bit more driving range. Tesla has made a few running changes to the 2021 Model 3. It’s a compact sedan that ostensibly competes against a raft of entry-level upscale cars but nonetheless has created an all-new sub-segment for sport sedans powered exclusively by electricity. The Tesla Model 3 is the electric car brand’s smallest, most affordable vehicle.
